Do we still need to request if 1G Canvas course needed to port?
Catherine Hillman
58:13
OCOB Online, I’m not sure I understand - can you elaborate please?
Teresa Cameron (OCOB)
59:59
How big are the Canvas courses? Previously we needed to request for a larger course that our Canvas be 1G for storage. Is there still a limit on Canvas course to 1G and/or have all been increased to 1G without an additional request?
Catherine Hillman
01:00:28
Hi Teresa! I’m going to let Tonia answer that one - she has the info on course size limits
Tonia Malone - SLO
01:00:47
Course size - https://canvassupport.calpoly.edu/course-storage-options
Teresa Cameron (OCOB)
01:00:47
Just answered that — but considering all are moving online can we do anything about making everyone’s course 1G
Catherine Hillman
01:01:42
I think unless people are storing videos in their courses, it’s probably not likely they’ll get up to 1 gig
Catherine Hillman
01:02:06
Video storage on OneDrive is encouraged, or hosting on YouTube
Catherine Hillman
01:02:18
I think my courses are typically around 30-50M
Catherine Hillman
01:02:35
Fully online courses :-)

01:02:56
CP has to pay EXTRA for video and audio files in Canvas. If you can…please store video and audio in other tools - https://canvassupport.calpoly.edu/course-storage-options
Catherine Hillman
01:03:01
Definitely let us know if your course is bigger than 1G, we will work with you!
Tonia Malone - SLO
01:03:14
OneDrive has “Stream” to store your own videos
Antonio Barata
01:03:25
Not quite on topic…but how can I add a pdf image, say, on a quiz?
Teresa Cameron (OCOB)
01:03:30
Agreed, we hit this limit quickly in one course when Zoom links were added. Would be true with 1G as well but it was harsh lesson when just getting started.\
Catherine Hillman
01:03:48
Antonio, that’s a GREAT question for our office hour Q&A sessions :-D
Antonio Barata
01:04:52
Um…is that the session at 2 today…or?
Antonio Barata
01:05:13
Oooops…just saw you answer. Thanks

I really do not mean to be a bother…but I just checked the link, and I do not see a session “Tomorrow at 10:10 is the Office Hours on Assessments in Canvas.

01:10:47
Hi Antonio, we’re offering the sessions to those who have attended these workshops. We’ll send you information!

You show importing a syllabus module import from commons, can I import a module from my sandbox.
Catherine Hillman

Can you import welcome info and course syllabus basics from course A into course B?
Catherine Hillman
01:15:09
Chris when you import material from another Canvas course, you can select certain content rather than importing all. That’s available during the import process
Catherine Hillman
01:15:43
Amy yes - similar to my answer to Chris, just import selected information. It appends rather than overwrites the course content :-)

Doug Sawyer
01:20:51
Is it best practice to organize the course by week or by by category?
Catherine Hillman
01:21:33
Doug - the answer is “it depends” :-) I organize by week as the date functions are awesome (I can release one week at a time automagically) but some people prefer topical modules
Catherine Hillman
01:21:47
I personally find there is more functionality in weekly modules
Doug Sawyer
01:22:23
Will the calendar still ‘work’ if org by topic modules?
Catherine Hillman
01:23:27
Doug, the calendar is based on due dates so YES! it will absolutely still work as long as you have due dates in your assignments
Dan Biezad
01:23:31
where did that link come from that was just inserted?
Catherine Hillman
01:24:01
Dan - Pam is selecting the item in the right column, and it is automagically placed in the page :-)
