Aubrie Adams
08:13
Good morning!
Aubrie Adams
08:21
I hear you
Aubrie Adams
10:07
Although I should mention that I don't think I was added to the waiting room, so not sure if the waiting list made it in all. Others might want to confirm
Aubrie Adams
24:47
How do we find out about and reserve assignable research space? What kinds of research activity is that space available for?
Joni Roberts
25:44
So if we are applying for a grant would we make a request for space at that time?
Aubrie Adams
37:36
Regarding student resources, is there research funding for students for travel or conferences?
Susan Tonik
38:28
Grad Ed also has some fund for Grad students to travel
Joni Roberts
47:36
Is the goal to have RSCA applications be smaller versions of SRI projects or a feeder program?
Susan Tonik
01:03:34
Will the slides be posted online? Where/when?
ceng@calpoly.edu
01:04:08
I’ll put them up and get the word out tomorrow at the latest
Aubrie Adams
01:09:42
I'm not sure if this is the right time for this question, but I keep thinking about faculty workload and balancing our teaching, research, and service. Is there any kind of discussion in supporting and encouraging faculty to maintain work/life balance?
Aubrie Adams
01:10:02
Or which department or group would be able to help us with managing balance when also pursuing research?
Joni Roberts
01:12:37
Speaking of balance is there a formula for the teacher scholar model? What percentage teaching vs research? Is it up to the individual?
Susan Tonik
01:12:40
Some colleges have mentorship programs for junior faculty - these can provide individual connections to other who have walked your path previously.
Aubrie Adams
01:19:14
I'm interested in participating in that discussion :)
Corrin Terrones
01:22:36
Hi All, My audio is not working. I am Corrin Terrones from the Grants Development Office. I support the pre-award activities for most of the College of Science & Math, Research & Economic Development, and Administration & Finance. I have been at Cal Poly for almost 2 years
ceng@calpoly.edu
01:25:30
thanks Corrin!
Jim Prince
02:05:07
I’m ready! I have a few slides for my talk.
Todd Hagobian
02:05:23
Me too. A few slides
Jim Prince
02:06:58
Remind me how much time I have, please.
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:07:38
I think 3-5 minutes for each of us (or shorter)
Jim Prince
02:07:47
Thanks, Jane.
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:08:58
Hi everyone! Super excited to see you all here! Can’t wait til we get to talk!
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:10:30
I think … although Bob didn’t say, you can ask questions / make comments / share your insights via the chat and/or via the webinar Q&A tool. (Bob, is that right?)
ceng@calpoly.edu
02:11:29
yes; use chat for now to ask questions, and we will open up audio for all later in the session.
Todd Hagobian
02:34:54
Thanks Derek!
Derek Gragson
02:40:27
How many people are on the webinar?
Todd Hagobian
02:41:00
18 attendees
Todd Hagobian
02:41:08
5 panelists
Derek Gragson
02:41:18
From CSM?
Todd Hagobian
02:41:39
Not sure how many from CSM
Aubrie Adams
02:48:01
Is there funding available (or coming available at some point) for students to attend conferences?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:50:34
Hi … should we all have our video on ….?
Aubrie Adams
02:51:55
It would be good to organize & communicate those sources of funding so it's not a mystery :)!
ceng@calpoly.edu
02:51:55
ideally when you are speaking, yes
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:54:43
Yes, another goal of the Office of Student Research canvas site and/or website!
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:54:51
(@Aubrie)
Aubrie Adams
02:55:17
Great! Thanks for those responses
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:56:26
@Jaime …. Can you share about your role at CP and how people might think about this with you?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:59:34
And then these are additional questions we can address if you all would like!
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:59:38
How do faculty engage in cross-college, inter- and trans-disciplinary research and how do departments, colleges & D-RED support this?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
02:59:40
What is the scholarship of teaching & learning and how/why is it valued at Cal Poly?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:05:45
We have been talking very specifically — I propose this one next: How do faculty engage in cross-college, inter- and trans-disciplinary research and how do departments, colleges & D-RED support this?
Ben Hawkins
03:14:21
the non-phd part hasn't been a challenge for me, but the teaching load has been. Making sure that this is addressed in the proposal is useful
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:24:44
(When allowed by the agency!)
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:25:36
I should have started talking a lot to Derek years before I did (for example)
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:32:38
We need $$ …. But can’t wait to address this until we have it!
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:32:42
Todd!?!?!?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:33:35
Revisiting our teaching load ....
Todd Hagobian
03:35:49
Yes I can address this
Todd Hagobian
03:39:50
Yes I can bring this up and can talk about this.
Ben Hawkins
03:42:23
Not a question, but a plug: if anyone interested in research that requires microfabrication/cleanroom type work, please let me know!
Derek Gragson
03:48:34
Did Todd already speak for CSM?
Todd Hagobian
03:48:52
Yes but you can add
Ben Hawkins
03:49:11
how do these competitions that are seen as scholarly activity for RPT weighted?
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:49:23
If you want to see the 10 projects we sent to the CSU Research competition In 2020, check out https://studentresearch.calpoly.edu/csu-research-competition
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:51:03
That sounds awesome
Derek Gragson
03:53:20
Not a competition
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:55:04
I love that Tryg.
Ben Hawkins
03:57:03
@Derek thanks for your direct answer! :-)
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:59:06
I think new people here at 215pm
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:59:11
Who were new at 1230pm session
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
03:59:23
want to make sure we don’t end this for them ….
Jane Lehr (she/hers)
04:00:50
Really good to talk with (to?!?!?) all of you!
Ben Hawkins
04:01:45
thank you!
